This text about the ambivalence of fieldwork, rituals, actors, and stories thematizes the relationship between the researcher and his informants and interlocutors (usually also the performers of a cultural practice), and it reveals dynamic processes at the same time. In the chapter “Texts and Realities” the author uses the carnival tradition known as škoromatija to decode a palimpsest structure and syncretic understanding of reality. The second chapter focuses on the production of local identity: a motif that is characteristic for today’s production of ritual practices and cultural heritage. The chapter “Illusions of Harmony” thematizes discourse on the relationship between the views and conceptions of the researcher and performer, whereby the author especially problematizes the search for and repeated discovery of golden eras. “The Timing of Verbalization” is a narrative about time as one of the most important categories of structuring a narrative. The researcher problematizes the perception of time and the horizon, compares different timing of the past for himself and his interlocutor, and teases out caesurae in the structuring of time. In the last and partly self-ethnographic chapter on the ambivalence of fieldwork, the writer focuses on stories of “capturing” the reality, and stories about changing the approach to fieldwork and about the changed configurations of relations among actors. Besedilo o ambivalencah terena, o ritualih, akterjih in pripovedi tematizira razmerje med raziskovalcem in njegovim informatorjem, sogovornikom, navadno tudi izvajalcem kulturne prakse, in hkrati odkriva dinamične procese. V poglavju Besedila in resničnosti avtor na primeru pustovanja (škoromatije) razbira palimpsestne strukture in sinkretično dojemanje resničnosti.

This translation of the book ('The Historical Roots of Magic Tale') written by one of the most prominent Russian folklorists of the 20th century Vladimir Yakovlevich Propp, presents one more classical work of anthropological and folkloristical science to Slovenian researchers. The theoretical starting-points which Propp concived in his book “Morphology of the Folktale” was in this work projected on concrete material – on Russian and European folktales. By comparing folktale motifs with actual historical and anthropological sources he substantiated his structuralistical and ritualistical theoties in folk narrative research and folkloristics. S prevodom temeljnega dela enega najvidnejših raziskovalcev ljudskega pripovedništva minulega stoletja, Vladimirja Jakovljeviča Proppa, je slovenska znanstvena publicistika bogatejše še za eno klasično študijo antropološke in folkloristične vede. Knjiga Zgodovinske korenine čarobne pravljice predstavlja morfološko in ritualistično usmerjeno študijo ljudskih – predvsem ruskih – čarobnih pravljic.

Z združevanjem zgodovinsko-pedagoškega in filološko-didaktičnega vidika poskuša delo podati kompleksen pregled položaja klasičnih jezikov in klasične izobrazbe v slovenskem šolstvu od rojstva klasične gimnazije do leta 1945.

The monograph ('Celtic Legacy in the Toponymy of South-Eastern Alps') offers a close examination of the South-Western Alpine region for Celtic (specifically Gaulish) linguistic remains in the onomastic landscape. Supported by a rigorous methodological apparatus, the investigation sets out to determine which ancient and contemporary geographical names can securely be pronounced to be etymologically Gaulish, focusing on the historical phonology, morphology, word formation, lexis, the geographical distribution of the relevant place-names, and the specific nature of their integration into the pre-existing toponymic landscape. The monograph is a decisive step forward in the recognition of the distributional character of Celtic linguistic remains in the Celtic East. In the wide time-span and the multifarious nature of the often fragmentary and sensitive linguistic material that it is faced with, this work contributes equally importantly to the field of comparative Celtic and Indo-European linguistics (especially with concern to the paleolinguistic remains in the region), as it does to Slovene onomastic studies and the problem of the constitution of early Slavic and early Romance phonological make-up and the interaction between the two.
